An Integrative GP is a qualified medical practitioner who uses their medical experience and knowledge in conjunction with nutritional, metabolic and functional medicine to provide a personalised wellness program.
There is a focus on preventative medicine and consultations with an Integrative GP are usually longer than your standard GP appointment.
A range of testing may be recommended to assist diagnosis and treatment including blood tests, functional testing for hormones, thyroid function, adrenal function and DNA genetic testing.
Treatment is aimed at correcting underlying causes as well as providing symptomatic relief. This may involve diet recommendations and lifestyle changes or prescription of supplements such as vitamins, minerals, trace elements and essential fatty acids where diet and lifestyle alone cannot rectify imbalances. There is also the ability to prescribe personalised Bio-identical hormones and other relevant prescriptions.
Your Integrative GP complements rather than replaces other health care and, if required, can work together with your regular GP, specialists and other health professionals.
Note: Medicare rebates apply to consultations.
